Senior Accountant Manufacturing Industry Position Summary The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in managing and improving the financial operations of a manufacturing organization. This position is responsible for accurate financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory valuation, and month‑end close activities while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and production-related accounting. Key Responsibilities Perform month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP Manage cost accounting functions including standard costing, bill of materials (BOMs), labor, overhead, and variance analysis Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and provide meaningful insights to operations and leadership Oversee inventory accounting, including cycle counts, physical inventories, valuation, reserves/obsolescence, and WIP accounting Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports Partner with production, operations, and supply chain teams to improve costing accuracy and operational efficiency Support budgeting, forecasting, and annual standard cost roll processes Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and audit requirements; assist with internal and external audits Assist with sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory reporting as applicable Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and stronger financial controls Mentor or review work of junior accounting staff as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required) 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing accounting Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing methodologies Proficient in ERP systems commonly used in manufacturing environments (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, Epicor, or similar) Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling) Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards Experience working closely with operations and plant leadership CPA or CMA preferred (not required, depending on client preference) Preferred Experience Multi‑site or multi‑entity manufacturing operations High‑volume inventory and complex BOM structures Audit support and internal controls (SOX exposure a plus) Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing environment
