Payroll Specialist

Position Overview We are a union low voltage contracting company with approximately 50 employees, including both hourly (union) and salaried sta$. We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Technician to take ownership of payroll processing and support related compliance tasks. This role starts part-time and has the potential to expand as the company grows. The ideal candidate is accurate, organized, comfortable working with construction payroll, and open to using modern tools including AI to improve e$iciency. Experience with Spectrum by Trimble is a major plus. Key Responsibilities • Process weekly payroll for hourly union employees and periodic payroll for salaried sta$ • Ensure accurate tracking of hours, overtime, di$erentials, and job cost allocations • Maintain compliance with union agreements, prevailing wage requirements, and applicable labor laws • Coordinate payroll data with accounting and job cost systems • Manage payroll records, deductions, benefits, and garnishments as required • Assist with certified payroll reporting when needed • Support year-end payroll tasks, including W-2 preparation and audits • Identify opportunities to improve payroll workflows using automation or AI tools • Communicate clearly with management and employees regarding payroll questions or corrections Required Qualifications • 2+ years of payroll processing experience (construction or union environment strongly preferred) • Experience processing both hourly and salaried payroll • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Comfortable working with payroll software and Excel • Basic understanding of labor compliance and payroll regulations • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally Preferred / Bonus Qualifications • Experience with Spectrum by Trimble (highly desired) • Prior experience with union payroll and collective bargaining agreements • Familiarity with prevailing wage or public works payroll • Experience using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, automation tools, etc.) to improve accuracy or e$iciency • Construction accounting or job cost exposure Work Schedule • Part-time to start • Flexible schedule within business hours • Opportunity for additional hours or expanded role overtime Why Work with Us • Stable union contractor with consistent work • Practical, no-nonsense team culture • Opportunity to modernize payroll processes using better tools and automation • Room to grow as the company and role expand
