Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Division Controller to oversee the financial operations of a dynamic agricultural organization. This role is ideal for a leader with experience in grower accounting, farming operations, and cost-intensive production environments. The Division Controller will partner closely with operational and executive leadership to provide financial insight, drive profitability, ensure compliance, and support continued growth.
This position oversees a small accounting team and requires both strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in daily accounting and financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Oversee grower accounting, grower settlements, and financial activities related to agricultural production cycles.
- Manage and analyze crop costing, inventory valuation, production costs, and operational reporting across farming operations.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, incorporating production, labor, and operational assumptions.
- Monitor profitability, margins, and cost performance while providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
- Coordinate external audits and maintain audit-ready financial records.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure planning.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Partner with operations leadership to evaluate financial performance and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and profitability.
- Support process improvements, system enhancements, and reporting initiatives.
- Systems & Software
- Experience with Famous Software is highly preferred.
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis, reporting, and data management.
- Ability to integrate operational data, including yields, labor, inventory, and production metrics, into financial reporting and analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Strong experience within agriculture, farming operations, food production, or other cost-intensive production environments.
- Deep understanding of grower accounting, cost accounting, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop accounting teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
